Pertinent Question and Horrific Possible Answer

Given that Obama has assiduously, zealously, and effectively used the nation's resources to reward and bestow favors on his domestic political cronies and supporters, one has to ask why his foreign policy is focused on appeasing and assisting America's antagonists while undermining, insulting, or, at best, slighting or ignoring our traditional friends and allies.

One very plausible -- though distasteful -- explanation of the apparent inconsistency is the possibility that the  U.S. and its current president have different friends and adversaries; specifically,  that Mr. Obama may be aligned with those hostile to America and its values, and that he shares their enmity toward our friends with similar values.

Unfortunately, many of Mr. Obama's actions and statements over many years support such a conclusion.

Islam's Pathology

Here is a succinct and accurate diagnosis by the estimable Victor Davis Hanson:

The wrath of the Muslim Street can be explained in terms something like this: Islamists have convinced the Arab masses that their present mess is not their own fault.

Discussions of the pernicious effects of endemic tribalism, misogyny, statism, anti-Semitism, fundamentalism, religious intolerance, xenophobia, and anti-modernism are taboo. So there is never serious reflection about self-induced pathologies that keep fostering a Saddam Hussein, Muslim Brotherhood, and Ba’ath Party, or the preconditions that throughout much of the 20th century made the Arab world so susceptible to Hitlerism, then Soviet communism, then Baathism, then Western authoritarianism, then authoritarianism, and, then, or rather always back to, Islamic radicalism.

Comics' Convention Quips

Jay Leno:
Bill Clinton said that President Obama inherited a deeply damaged economy. And if he's re-elected he'll inherit an even more deeply damaged economy.

President Obama's speech was moved from the Bank of America Stadium to the Time Warner Cable Arena. They had to move out of the big venue into a smaller place. Like a lot of homeowners in the past four years.

 . . . and Conan:
Today Scarlett Johansson, Kerry Washington, and Eva Longoria all spoke at the Democratic convention. This means that Obama has all but clinched the crucial 13-year-old boy vote.

Demorat Thesaurus

Investing, as understood by normal people, is something done by individuals with their own money or by an entity on behalf of individuals who have voluntarily contributed funds to the entity for that purpose.

Demorats use the term to mischaracterize (and thus disguise) government spending of money extorted by threats from productive individuals to buy the votes of the looting Demorats' parasitic supporters and constituencies.

The U.S. currently is very close to a tipping point from which no nation ever has been able to return -- the point at which the unproductive recipient constituencies together with those employed by the government in its redistribution of earnings confiscated from productive citizens make up a majority of the voting public.

Our Future? -- A Grim But Credible Scenario

An equally dark but very possible alternative to the Civil War prediction posted on this blog on September 6 is spelled out in the lengthy thoughtful essay that can be viewed here.

Stifled by the State

An excellent essay on how the looting statists are transforming (and destroying) the unique nature of America that made it a great nation can be viewed by clicking here.

Politicians Love Sheeple

Tolerant Bedbugs Welcome Demorats

There are reports that nine of the hotels being used for politicians at the Democratic National Convention have bedbugs. When asked what it’s like to have to deal with thousands of ruthless bloodsuckers, the bedbugs were like, “Eh, it’s OK.”

More on Obama's Intolerance for Healthy Ridicule

Today's Wall Street Journal Best of the Web online column quotes the estimable Peggy Noonan's observation -- similar to one made in a recent post on this blog -- that President Obama can't stand to be made fun of. His pride won't allow it, his amour propre cannot countenance a joke at his own expense.

It then supplies the perfect rejoinder:

It is healthy for America that the president be criticized and even mocked.  Deference to a Dear Leader has no place in a democracy. It's healthy for race relations too, that he be judged on his record rather than held to a lower standard in the name of racial progress. When a black politician is treated like any other politician, that's genuine progress.

If Obama had been subject to the usual rigors of politics in 2008 and before, and if his backers in the media and elsewhere had not been so keen before and during his presidency to deflect criticism by invoking race, he probably would have a thicker skin, better arguments and a deeper understanding of America.  Then again, without the racial symbolism and all the accompanying baggage, he probably would still be the junior senator from Illinois (if that).  Life is full of trade-offs.

Bright Side of Obama's Reign

Since Obama is ruling by decree, we can dispense with the Congress.  We should send that miserable body's 535 sorry ass members back home, stop paying them, and get rid of all those expensive staff members.

Some will object that Congress is required to appropriate funds to enable the government to operate but that's a bogus claim.  Congress hasn't passed a budget since Obama took office. Instead, they just pass continuing resolutions, which keeps spending and spending increases on autopilot.  Therefore, it can and should be assumed that this will go on in perpetuity . . . or at least until the country plunges off the inevitable fiscal cliff.

That will occur if and when the Fed becomes unable, or ceases to keep interest rates artificially low.  At that point just paying the interest on the already incurred debt will require more than the government takes in, and it will be without funds to operate or to meet any of its other obligations (things like Social Security benefits, Medicare, etc.).
