Wal-Mart vs. Government Morons

 1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart every hour of every day

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 16 million people, is the world's largest private employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only fifteen years.

8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains filed for bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 U.S. stores, of which 1,906 are Super Centers. This is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at Wal-Mart stores. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.

You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy.

This should be read and understood by all Americans Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!!

To President Obama and all 535 voting members of our Congress -- It is now official you are ALL corrupt morons:

a.. The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 235 years to get it right and it is broke.

b.. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 75 years to get it right and it is broke.

c.. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 72 years to get it right and it is broke.

d.. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 46 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.

e.. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 45 years to get it right and they are broke.

f.. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 40 years to get it right and it is broke.

g.. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 33 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.

You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars.

AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM   ??

WE OUGHT TO KICK YOU POMPOUS BUMS OUT OF OFFICE AND OUTSOURCE RUNNING THE GOVERNMENT TO  WAL-MART ! ! ! !

WAL-MART SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO RUN THINGS. WHY DON'T YOU GUYS JUST ADMIT DOING SO IS WAY BEYOND YOUR CAPABILITIES, AND QUIT?

WikiLeaks Outrage Misdirected and Intentionally Misdirecting

The powers that be are using the full range of their propaganda tools in an all out campaign to gin up a public lynch mob mindset against WikiLeaks and its founding leader, Julian Assange, for having made public an enormous trove of sordid information they were trying to keep from ever seeing the light of day.

The campaign is a diversion. Its purpose is to get people to focus on the supposed sins of WikiLeaks and Mr. Assange and thus to divert their attention from the corrupt, deceitful, brutal, and criminal conduct that has been shown to have become our government's standard operating procedure.

All of this is spelled out in -- surprisingly, of all places --  Salon, in this detailed account.

It's a must to read and think about.

Also not to be missed is the second part of the article, in which the author goes on to point out how our government, in keeping with the normal practice of authoritarian regimes, is increasingly keeping its activities secret from the nation's citizens and, at the same time, gathering hordes of information about each and every one of us for whatever uses and purposes it may decide to use the collected data against any of us in the future.

An additional point that needs to be noted is the financial stress that has been brought to bear against WikiLeaks and Mr. Assange by the big -- and incidentally government beholden -- bank credit card payment processors. They all have decided, supposedly independently, to stop processing payments to WikiLeaks and Mr. Assange. Another surprise is that The New York Times, in this editorial, has noted the dangers to our freedoms that this action portends as any publication, any enterprise, any group, or any individual disfavored by our rulers could be similarly cut off at the financial knees.

A Day With The Times

After a pleasant hiatus of a fair number of years, I on Sunday read through the day's edition of The New York Times . . . , and boy, was it ever a hoot. By the time I was done my head was spinning with the amazing knowledge and ideas that I had acquired.

The most important thing I gleaned from my renewed exposure to what once was the nation's great newspaper of record is that we have, and are suffering from a surfeit of people who have been educated beyond their respective capacities. They staff and have seized control of most of our governmental, academic, and media institutions. When not engaged in their usually pursuits in those institutions -- most of which inflict various kinds and degrees of harm on our society -- they spend inordinate amounts of time and effort claiming and celebrating their status as superior beings and congratulating and honoring themselves and one another.

Explicit reports in the paper informed me that:

*  The record breaking cold, blizzards, and snow and ice storms that the North American and European continents are experiencing all are due to global warming.

*  It is going to be necessary for the federal government to bail out the nation's biggest (and biggest spending) states because they have squandered their way into bankruptcy. No mention is made of the fact that this means that  tax paying residents of states that have managed their financial affairs relatively prudently now are supposed to chip in and pay for the goodies that they have done without but that the profligate states have provided for their residents.

Screw the Nervy Islamic Hypocrites

Here is a Christmas Eve news report:

Imam to tour nation promoting NYC Islamic center

VERENA DOBNIK
From Associated Press
December 24, 2010 6:52 PM EST

NEW YORK (AP) — The Muslim cleric who hopes to build an Islamic center near the World Trade Center site said Friday that he'll tour the country in an effort "to inspire interfaith understanding" for a project that has ignited explosive faceoffs between supporters and opponents.

"The major purpose is to make people aware of what America means as a country that protects the right to freedom of religion," Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf told The Associated Press.
American Muslims like himself, he said, "can play an important role as interlocutors between the United States and the Muslim world."

If the imam really wants to "inspire interfaith understanding" he would better spend his time touring the Islamic world and suggest that his coreligionists there permit Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, etc., to practice their faiths and establish their places of worship  there. While he is at it, he might even suggest that non Muslims foolish enough to wish to do so be permitted to visit Mecca and that the faithful in Iraq stop killing Christians and other non Muslims there.

Absent such changes in the Islamic world,  interfaith understanding is and will remain a fraud . . . a one way scam.

Unless and until the supposedly moderate imam is prepared to, and does promote such changes among his fellow Muslims in their homelands he and his proposed 9/11 ground zero Islamic center can just pound sand. And as the Middle East hellholes in which the Islamic crazies and craziness originated have sand in abundance, wouldn't it be a wonderful blessing if they would just go back and pound it there?

Government Killing Its Own?

Our Border Patrol, Janet Incompetano, the Obama administration and their policy dictates facilitated and therefore are complicit in the shooting death of a border patrol agent if there is anything to this account of how the agent died. Furthermore, according to the apparently credible report, the authorities (our rulers) are trying to cover up how they rendered the agent helpless to be murdered. It appears that his 'superiors' restricted the agent to firing only beanbags against the killers who were shooting real bullets at him.

An Impertinent But Important Question

Having school cafeterias serve healthy food, eschewing junk goodies and serving only nonfattening and health enhancing stuff, might be a good idea. Perhaps its even a great one.

But where in the the Constitution, pray tell, is there anything that gives the federal government the power to mandate schools throughout the nation to do any such thing? Can't we trust the citizens on local school boards to decide what is best for students in their communities?

Doesn't anyone care about such questions anymore?

President Obama clearly does not. He just signed another nanny state piece of legislation. This one empowers the federal government to dictate what can and what cannot be served in school cafeterias everywhere in the U.S.

George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation

Thanksgiving Proclamation

[New York, 3 October 1789]

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation:

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor  -- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be -- That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks--for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation -- for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war -- for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed -- for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted -- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions -- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually -- to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed -- to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord -- To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us -- and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Our Exempt Rulers

Having undergone the government induced transformation from independent and self reliant citizens to dependent and submissive Stepford subjects, Americans seem capable of swallowing any and all outrageous intrusions on their freedoms, individual liberties, and persons. At the same time they appear to be paying little notice to, or are meekly accepting the fact that, as is spelled out in this report, their rulers are exempting themselves from the latest outrage that the rulers are inflicting on the rest of us.

A Truly Useful Service/Facility

It's a Training Program and We Are the Trainees

What's going on at the nation's airports has little -- and quite possibly nothing -- to do with preventing terrorist attacks on aircraft in flight. There are better ways to prevent such attacks but they are politically unacceptable to our (oh, so proper) ruling oligarchs.

Instead the program of voyeuristic and irradiating screenings or gropings are part and parcel of  a sustained training program to condition and acclimatize Americans to accept the loss of individual dignity and freedom . . . to become part of a uniformly docile and easily-led undifferentiated herd.

It is hardly coincidence that the same elitists who have fashioned the airport security program have opposed and are blocking development of the domestic sources of oil that could result in lower gasoline and energy prices. They at the same time are pushing hugely expensive and uneconomic light and high speed rail projects. They want everyone dependent on public mass transit, not driving around in private automobiles. They want a population dependent on, and unquestioningly accepting of government and anything and everything government does or may do.

Neither Germany under the Hitler-led Nazis nor the Soviets under  the Lenin and Stalin led Communists attempted anything as breath taking as what now is routine at America's airports  -- those earlier and comparatively amateurish totalitarians just insisted on their enforcement goons being able to view the government issued documents, not the private parts, of their subjects.

And subjects is what we are destined to become if we allow the conditioning program to go forward. Out "leaders" have made and are persisting in making it clear that their genital inspecting program will continue no matter what we, as citizens, say or do. This is government of the people, by the people, and for the people?

No, it is not. It is all encompassing and totally controlling  despotism beyond anything George Orwell envisioned. Whether by design or natural progression, if allowed to continue it will transform America into the land of the servile and the home of the fearful.

Protective Action By Our Helpful Government

Atrocities like this one are become routine in the police states that our airports have become under the aegis of the Transportation Security Agency.

A Dream From Before It Degenerated Into the House of Reprehensibles

The house of representatives ... can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as the great mass of society. This has always been deemed one of the strongest bonds by which human policy can connect the rulers and the people together. It creates between them that communion of interest, and sympathy of sentiments, of which few governments have furnished examples; but without which every government degenerates into tyranny.

Air Travel Tip

Want to avoid being irradiated and viewed naked by the TSA's voyeurs or felt up and fondled by its groping goons? It can be done . . . and done quite easily.

Just wear a hijab.

That's right. According to this report, hijab wearing Muslim women are exempt from the humiliatingly intrusive screenings that Christians,  Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and virtually everybody else*  are subjected and required to undergo at the nation's airports.

Allahu Akbar

* Excluding, of course members of congress and certain other select elected and federal officials.

Now I'm Worried

Never gave much thought to any health risks that might be associated with the imaging machines that one has to go through to travel by air these days.

Now, however, the government is insisting that those machines are safe and claiming that the radiation they emit and direct at and through our bodies does not pose any health hazard.

It being a given that nothing the government says can be taken at face value, I now am worried.

As a very senior citizen, I in all likelihood will have departed from this mortal coil long before the cumulative effects of all those rays do me any significant harm. But what about my kids and, especially my little grand kids?

As I don't want them groped by Janet Incompetano's professional pervert goon squads, the youngsters better travel by car, private or chartered aircraft, or stay at home.

California Bailout In the Works but Out of Sight

California is broke . . . flat busted broke . . . busted. Nonetheless it is continuing to spend money it doesn't have, going deeper and ever deeper into the hole, and the nation's taxpayers almost certainly are going to end up paying California's bills.

The tipping point appears to have been reached much quicker than the post immediately beneath this one anticipated.

An effort by the golden state to borrow the money needed for its current and ongoing spending is failing. Financial institutions and other private investors are shying away from bonds the impecunious state is trying to peddle. After all, who wants IOUs from a deadbeat?

But as Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan learned and were wont to say:  Where there's a whip, there's a way.

The whip and the way in this case is California's use of it political clout to get the federal government to guarantee the bonds. With that guarantee the same investors who previously shied away from purchasing the bonds will buy them as they are secured and backed up by the U.S. Treasury . . . meaning the nation's taxpayers. The federal guarantee is taking shape beneath the public's radar screen, avoiding the attention that would be given a direct federal purchase of the bonds as anticipated by the earlier post on this subject.

In any event though, when California is unable to make the payments called for by the bonds, taxpayers in states that have managed their finances prudently -- and whose taxpayers therefore have done without the goodies that Californians have persisted in bestowing on themselves through their state's now empty coffers -- will end up making those payments through the U.S. Treasury.  California and Californians will merrily continue going their way.  Meanwhile, New York and Illinois, the other politically powerful and profligate states, already are lining up to share in the largess of the federal government with what it extracts from citizens' purses and wallets.

Please Let Us Go Down the Drain

Please do everything you can to prevent the federal government from attempting to rescue my sorry home state of California from the sea of red ink in which it currently is foundering and into which it is destined to sink in the not too far distant future.

Only that disaster will shake this debt ridden la-la land's dreamy voters out of the irresponsible complacency that led them just this month to continue to avoid  reality and again elect the biggest and wildest governmental spenders to virtually every state office. The voters even facilitated still greater future spending excesses by passing a measure that reduces the vote to adopt a state budget from two-thirds to a simple majority of the legislature.

Voters in other states should do everything they can to ensure that their elected representatives actively oppose any federal bailout of California's feckless government. And the same thing is true in the case of the almost equally debt ridden and irresponsible State of New York.

These monstrously big spending states will be trying to issue and sell bonds to the federal government to obtain cash infusions to fund their continuing profligate spending. The current national administration, the Federal Reserve, and the country's major financial institutions are predisposed to go along with such transactions even though there is very little possibility of such bonds ever being repaid or even serviced for very long. "Too big to fail" and a plethora of other theoretical and philosophical -- but phony -- claims will be offered to justify the proposed bailouts.

But why -- and this is the relevant question that the bailout proponents won't answer or even address -- should taxpayers in states that have handled their finances prudently chip in and pay to try to keep the fringe bookend states from bearing the consequences of their recklessly spendthrift ways?

Furthermore, the pain that the forthcoming collapse of the California and New York fiscal houses of cards will inflict ultimately will benefit the big coastal states' voters by driving home a much needed lesson on the need for, and benefits of financial discipline.

Government Creation: Not Just Jobs But Whole New Career Fields

They're in Janet Incompetano's Transportation Security Agency that's now staffing up our nation's airports with Professional Gropers, Peeping Toms, and Voyeurs.

Wonder if they'll eventually have sub specialties such as groping children, toying with teens, laying hands on the handicapped, fondling the elderly, playing with transgender folks, or on minute visual examinations of such special categories.  Caligula would have loved it but for the lack of Ms. Janet's imagination.

We can look forward to the day that we'll have a National Groping Academy to train tomorrow's torso tickling troops. It should be able to proudly take a place alongside such institutions as West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and the Coast Guard Academy. The new institution undoubtedly will offer theoretical and philosophical courses as well as hands on training in every pubic poking, probing, and prodding fetish.

Applications of course will be welcome from convicted criminal perverts. Highly qualified by their past experiences, these intrepid future protectors of the traveling public will be released from prisons for additional training to enable (and allow) them to complete their sentences by working at airports near you.

Is this a great country or what? Only one around in which one can make a living by copping feels.

Did Harry Cheat and Did Harrah's Pitch In?

Light Weight Harry Reid is accused of having played fast and loose with the election laws and Harrah's may have done so as well to help him win reelection to the Senate, if this account is correct. In any case, the possibility of Harrah's being willing to cheat in this way is enough to make me question whether they play fair with their customers and that's enough to make me avoid visiting any of their establishments in the future.

Something's Rotten in the Nutmeg State

How much more corrupt can it get in a state that elects to the U.S. Senate a guy who has what Shakespeare's Julius Caesar accurately described as "a lean and hungry look" even after he was outed as having lied about his military service?

Quite a bit apparently, according to this report, which points out serious questions about the integrity of Connecticut's gubernatorial election.

Legal Elites In A Snit

The nation's elite lawyers -- those  in its huge law firms and prestigious law school faculties -- have been trying, with some but decreasing success, to deprive voters of any say in selecting judges but now they, along with a good many appellate court judges, are reacting with outrage over the effrontery of Iowa's voters who removed from office all three of the state's supreme court judges who were on the ballot this week. Had the rest if the state's high court judges been on the ballot the impudent voters probably would made a clean sweep of it and cleared the bench of the occupants who recently instilled gay marriage into Iowa constitutional law by judicial fiat.

Horror of horrors: the unimaginable audacity of the electorate wanting some say about the laws of their society.

The Wall Street Journal has it exactly right in this editorial, pointing out that if judges are going to issue decrees setting political and social policies they are going to have to be held accountable. Without the  very limited accountability that exists and that was exercised by Iowa's voters, the courts would be free to govern every aspect of our lives as arbitrary despots. Our courts already have moved even farther in this direction than the nation's founders feared they might, and by doing so they have transformed the judiciary, which once was viewed as the government's least dangerous branch, into a highly dangerous one.

P.S. Among those supporting the drive to remove voters from the judicial selection process is George Soros . . . and he's been putting big bucks into the effort.

An Eyebrow Raising Election Oddity

For a conservative to win an election, he or she apparently must do so by a wide enough margin to be declared the winner on election night. As the counts and recounts in close races go forward they slip behind closed doors and out of the view of the public, which moves on and focuses on other things as days and more days pass. Such prolonged counts ultimately and invariably end up with the progressive candidate being declared the winner. It is a remarkable coincidence that, given enough time, the government employees counting the votes outside of the public spotlight always seem to find enough ballots to put the statist candidate -- the one favoring ever bigger and more costly, intrusive, and powerful government -- over the top.

The Anti U.S. Lineup

Take a look at this report on the great humanitarian regimes that are lining up for the United Nations' review of America's human rights record. Not surprising but nonetheless mind blowing . . . and the administration is going to sit still for this?

What the Press Ignores

While the propagandist press focuses on a few individual citizens who have behaved irrationally at a limited number of Tea Parties across the country, it resolutely refuses to report, as Ann Coulter does in this report, about the truly demented Democrats occupying and running to occupy public offices giving them  power to inflict their irrationality on our  whole society.

Is the Fix In for Light Weight Harry?

Something funny is going on with the voting machines in Las Vegas, Nevada, and, according to this report as well as this one, all the errors are in favor of embattled Senate majority leader Harry Reid.  Is it just coincidental that the machines are serviced, and thus effectively controlled by members of the, oh, so scrupulous Service Employees International Union (the SEIU), which strongly favors and supports Reid's reelection.

Similar reports also are coming in from North Carolina . . . and guess who calibrates the machines there.

Fight Back Against the George Soros Broadcasting Network

If additional evidence were needed that National Public Broadcasting -- both radio and television -- is nothing more than a hard left pimping outlet for George Soros and his statist cohorts, the last bit of proof was provided during the past week by the propaganda network's inability to tolerate even the amiable left of center views of Juan Williams.

He's gone . . .  and so too should be everybody else who supports the free exchange of ideas and open public debates . . . as well as taxpayer subsidies for the media outlet noteworthy for the pretentious and sanctimonious tones with which it emits its endless flow of progressive advocacy.

There is a way to fight back as public broadcasting currently is in the midst of another of its seemingly endless donation seeking beg-a-thons. Let's all call them . . . repeatedly, clogging their lines. Wait for a live agent and tell them that we reject public propagandizing and find public broadcasting intolerant and intolerable, and that we will do everything possible to cut off the flow of public funds to the network.

Beyond Disgustingly Excessive

Election Won't End Need for the Tea Parties

A report that appeared in The Wall Street Journal in the last couple of days made clear that establishment Republican leaders in Congress fear being viewed as "obstructionists" after the upcoming election. Anticipating that the GOP will win a majority of the seats in at least the House of Reprehensibles,  they already are preparing to surrender . . . to cooperate with their Democrat counterparts and the Obama administration.

To guard against sellouts to unending expansions in the size, scope, and costs of government the Tea Parties will have to remain active for the foreseeable future . . . to continuously make clear that they will produce and support challengers to remove from public offices those who don't consistently act to bring government back to, and to confine it within the limits prescribed by the Constitution.

Make RINOs an endangered species. Preferable an extinct one.

Eternal vigilance really is the price of freedom.

Government's Numbers: Always Nudged and Fudged

It's always wise to distrust anything put out by the government.

That's particularly true during periods running up to an election . . . and especially the upcoming one.

Today's news contained a report that new unemployment insurance claims were lower than had been anticipated. At the same time, the comparable report for a prior period was adjusted upward. Read on to understand (or confirm what you already understand) about what is going on.

Also, the government is scheduled to report on the gross domestic product and again on employment data just a few days before November 2 and the reports undoubtedly will be a rosy ones.

The problem is, as the old saying goes, that while "figures don't lie, liars can figure."

The whole charade is part and parcel of the ruling establishment's electioneering campaign effort to convince the gullible that despite every real world indication to the contrary, the administration's ministrations are improving the nation's economic conditions.

Look out though. All the numbers will be "adjusted" after the election to bring them a bit more in line with reality though not sufficiently to reflect just how dire the situation actually is.

Ruminations From Cajun Country

A good ol' boy writes:

While in Breaux Bridge , La. last week I saw a Muslim fall into the Bayou Teche one morning and, being a responsible citizen, I informed Emergency Services.

It's 6:00 p.m.  and they still haven't responded!

I'm now starting to think I've wasted a stamp !

From the Annals of Government Medical Care

This Saturday, one of Greece's most respected newspapers, To Vima, reported that the nation's largest government health insurance provider would no longer pay for special footwear for diabetes patients. Amputation is cheaper, says the Benefits Division of the state insurance provider . . . .

Greece's National Healthcare System was created in the early 1980s, during the tenure of Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou. Papandreou, an academic, won election under the slogan, Αλλαγή, which is the Greek word for Change.

What Progessive Statists Can't and Don't Want To Recognize

All the confusion among liberal elitists about, and their attacks on the Tea Party movement come down, as this superb essay makes clear, to one very basic thing:

Those participating in and supporting the Tea Parties don't believe the Constitution is obsolete and they want government to be confined to the limits prescribed by that founding document.

This is too threatening to be dealt with by those who make up the progressive establishment. Therefore they cannot acknowledge or recognize the basic concept underlying the Tea Party movement . . . and adamantly cling to their willful refusal to do so.

The last half dozen paragraphs of the linked essay should not be missed.

A Judge Gets It Right

Declining the Obama administration's efforts to get him to join it on the far side of its magical looking glass, a U.S. Federal District Court judge has ruled that challenges to Obamacare can proceed. In doing so, the jurist noted that in pressing for enactment of the legislative monstrosity, the administration insisted that payments that the law would required from individuals who did not purchase health insurance would be penalties and not taxes, but now are seeking to defend such required payments as a taxes. Declining the administration's efforts to deal from whichever side of the deck it deems most expedient at the moment, the judge, according to reports that can be found here and here called the effort an "Alice in Wonderland tack" and refused to permit it.

Another Way To Counter Violent Criminal Threats

Warning Note: This is not favored by those who view a rape victim lying dead in an alley as morally superior to a woman who shoots her would be attacker dead.

Our World Is a Dangerous Place . . . and That's Nothing New

Terrorism may be shattering widespread illusions of safety and security in western societies,  awakening comfortably somnolent  populations, and forcing them to see the world as it actually is -- a dangerous place with violence and threats of violence a normal, consistent, constant, and enduring aspect of the human condition.

So relax . . . but do so while staying alert.  Also, keep in mind that every individual is his or her own first responder with primary responsible for his or her own survival. No matter what governmental authorities may tell you, your life and well being are not as important to them or to anyone else as they are to you. Government wants you to be dependent on it and its agents, but, as the saying accurately has it, when seconds count, help is just minutes away . . . or perhaps even hours, days, weeks, months, or years.

A few useful tips on how to counter terrorist and other human threats of violence can be gleaned from this essay and the materials to which it provides links.

A Dangerous Illusion

NATO has become our time's version of the Maginot Line, an outdated structure that creates the illusion of affording a defense but that has outlived its real world usefulness. It currently has little, if anything, to do with the North Atlantic. Its members have different interpretations of their treaty commitments, and the organization is in shambles. The how and why of NATO's degeneration and its current status are spelled out in this clear headed analysis.

Presidential Leadership -- the Real Thing

It does exist and we have seen and are seeing it . . . in Chile.

Chile's president was on the scene throughout the extractive rescue of the 33 miners who had been trapped a half mile beneath the earth's surface. He was there, really there, in person, giving aid, comfort, and support to the miners' families, the rescue workers, and the people of the nearby town that is the home of most of the miners.

He didn't:

*  Make any grand and eloquent speeches.

*  Proclaim that he would not sleep until . . . whenever or whatever . . . only to then disappear on vacation.

*  Find fault with or blame anyone.

*  Threaten to keep his foot on anyone's throat.

*  Just fly over the site and land only to pose for a brief photo opportunity.

*  Appoint a commission to study the situation and submit recommendations to him about how to deal with it..

He listened to the available experts on site. Learning that there were three means that were likely to succeed in rescuing the miners, he immediately made a decision to pursue all of them simultaneously, and then made sure that all necessary equipment, materials, and support was available. The effort succeeded two months earlier than had been anticipated., Then, without hogging the spotlight or claiming any personal credit, the Chilean  president quietly joined in the joyful celebration of the safe return of all of the miners to their loved ones.

America once upon a time had leadership like that.

Degraded Science

Happening in Phoenix

This photo was taken at an August protest rally at the Arizona state capitol in Phoenix. Capitol Police and Homeland Security would not let Americans or veterans who were there do anything about the desecration of the flag.

Several individuals were threatened with arrested and told they would be booked  on federal charges if they did anything to interfere with demonstrators who were spitting on and stomping on the flag and burning it with cigarettes. One soldier who reportedly had just returned from Iraq was said to have been thrown to the ground by Capitol Police and Homeland Security when tried to grab the flag.

Al-Qaida Not Hiding Its Grisly Hopes and Intentions

In an English language magazine that it publishes, Al-Qaida calls for carnage in and against America by our homegrown Muslims. The open effort to recruit and instruct American Islamists to sow death and destruction against their countrymen reflects their contempt for the rest of us and their confidence that we are too steeped in bogus tolerance to rouse ourselves from the lethargy that prevents us from undertaking any aggressive defense actions to effectively counter their murderous hopes and intentions. Read about it in this article that currently is circulation among anti-terrorist law enforcement personnel and units.

Canadian Press Report

The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration.  The recent actions of the Tea Party are prompting an exodus among left-leaning citizens who fear they’ll soon be required to hunt, pray, and agree with Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck.

Canadian border farmers say it’s not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, news paper writers, animal-rights wacko's  and Unitarians crossing their fields at night.

“I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn,” said Manitoba farmer Red  Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota .  “The producer was cold, exhausted and hungry.  He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken.  When I said I didn’t have any, he left before I even got a chance to show him my screenplay, rude eh?”

In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them.  He then installed loudspeakers that blared Rush Limbaugh across the fields.  “Not real effective,” he said.  “The liberals still got through and Rush annoyed the cows.”

Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons and drive them across the border where they are simply left to fend for themselves.

“A lot of these people are not prepared for our rugged conditions,” an Ontario border patrolman said.  “I found one carload without a single bottle of imported drinking water They did have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet, though.”

When liberals are caught, they’re sent back across the border, often wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives.  Rumors have been circulating about plans being made to build re-education camps where liberals will be forced to drink domestic beer and watch NASCAR races.

In recent days, liberals have turned to ingenious ways of crossing the border.  Some have been disguised as senior citizens taking a bus trip to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs..  After catching a half- dozen young vegans in powdered wig disguises, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior-citizens about Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney to prove that they were alive in the ‘50s.  “If they can’t identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we become very suspicious about their age,” an official said.

Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and are renting all the Michael Moore movies.  “I really feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can’t support them,” an Ottawa resident said.  “How many art-history and, black study majors does one country need?”

In an effort to ease tensions between the United States and Canada, Vice President Biden met with the Canadian ambassador and pledged that the administration would take steps to reassure liberals.  A source close to President Obama said, “We’re going to have some Paul McCartney and Peter, Paul & Mary concerts.  And we might even put some endangered species on postage stamps.  The President is determined to reach out,” he said.

Notable Quote

The Late Joe Sobran on Obama:

Nor has he said anything memorable -- not even a single aphorism over this long campaign. And the title of his book 'The Audacity of Hope' -- what on earth does that mean? He is always hinting at a substance that is never disclosed to us. He seems to live by raising vague aspirations he never fulfills.

A Dose of Reality

This will come as a chilling dash of cold water for those who bask under the illusion that they can rely on governmental authorities to keep them safe and secure. This account, which pierces that myth and reveals the truth behind the curtain, comes from Don Kates,a distinguished civil liberties attorney and one of the nation's preeminent second amendment scholars:

We see it on the news virtually every night: yet another in an endless succession of colossal mistakes by "government" agencies, often with horrendously tragic results. Innumerable examples can be cited from events in the national news: 9/11; the Enron and other major business scandals; etc.

But I want to discuss a micro-example that occurred in a city near me. In 9/2001 a 12 year old Oregon girl named Ashley Pond reported to a teacher [Linda Virden] that she was the subject of on-going sexual assaults by an adult neighbor named Ward Weaver. The matter was immediately reported by the horrified teacher to the so-called Oregon Department of Child Protective Services. When nothing was done the teacher reported it twice more, and Ashley's mother also reported it three separate times. Nothing happened because in each instance the matter was referred to the same state employee who did not think it worth referring to the local police, though the agency regulations required that all such matters be so referred.

But this really made no difference for when Ashley disappeared the police belatedly were informed, but did nothing. Nor did they bring Weaver under serious scrutiny six weeks later when another girl [Miranda Gaddis, 13] disappeared from the apartment building in which Ashley had lived. Weaver was only arrested when a naked young woman he had raped and tried to murder escaped from his house and flagged down a passing car. At that point a belated search of Weaver's rented premises uncovered both girls' bodies.

There ensued an orgy of false denials and finger pointing among the various "government" agencies involved. Eventually the head of the state agency took the unusual step of actually admitting that its employee was at fault. At the same time he announced multiple new regulations for handling such reports in the future. These will prove no more effective than the previous police report regulation which the agency employee violated.

I place quotation marks around "government" because it is a fundamentally false concept. It disguises from us the truth about the endless succession of colossal public agency mistakes reported in newscasts virtually every night. The truth is that there is no  such thing as "government." There are only the tens, scores, or even hundreds or thousands of people employed by agencies. Like people in general, these employees are sometimes corrupt and many are lazy, and all are fallible.

Remember Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis, not just as little girls who never got to grow up, but as condign examples. People who place faith in "government" are instead just relying on other people disguised by a name and training regime that sometimes make them more reliable, and sometimes less. The more vital the interests you abandon to the sole protection of government, the nearer you are to the fate of Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis.

Further Thoughts About the California Governor Race and What the Tea Parties Have Given Us Everywhere

In reviewing my decision (explained in the preceding post) to not vote for or support the Republican candidate seeking to become California's next governor, it occurred to me that she talks about cutting the costs of government because those costs have become unaffordable.

The same thing seems to be true of other GOP establishment candidates nationwide.

Were tax receipts to rise with an improving economy, one has to wonder how many of these candidates would revert to "big government conservatives." This is what we got the last time Republicans controlled the government's legislative branch. When they took over, the GOPers went on a sustained spending spree that squandered even more of the nation's wealth than had their Democrat predecessors.

The inescapable conclusion is that all establishment politicians, irrespective party affiliations, are careerists who will endeavor to perpetuate their positions by using the public treasury to buy supportive constituencies.

None of them gives any sign of actually believing that GOVERNMENT THAT GOVERNS LEAST GOVERNS BEST.

That notion of the nation's founders appears to be a common mindset of the upstart candidates brought into the fray by the Tea Parties. Thus the Tea Parties are offering us an opportunity that does not exist when only establishment candidates are on the ballot and all we can do is to try to pick the lesser of two evils.

No longer Going For The Lesser Of Two Evils

Having survived past the supposed allotment of three score years and ten, I'm fed up with selecting one of two almost equally abhorrent election candidates.

For anyone who is interested, I will not be voting for either Brown or Whitman to become California's next governor.

Whitman has some good sensible arguments on financial matters which are important as California is melting down economically. But she is a staunch gun grabber and a liberal on all social issues; while I don't much care about the latter, as a committed civil rights and second amendment supporter, the former is a show stopper for me. Also, California's political establishment has created a fiscal abyss from which the state can no longer escape anyway except through bankruptcy.

Brown is a longtime liberal and an economic ignoramus who has spent his life at the public or his family's trough. On the plus side, he did once -- long ago, to be sure -- take a principled position on the second amendment. But he has long been and continues to be beholden to union bosses, and, in particular, to the corrupt rulers of the public employees unions responsible for bankrupting the state. Finally and most importantly, he has been derelict in the performance of his duty as California's attorney general. He has abandoned the defense of the voter adopted ban on gay marriages, leaving the voters unrepresented in the federal courts in which the constitutionality of the measure is being challenged by its opponents.

As we unfortunately do not have the ability to vote for None of the Above, I will be voting for a candidate of one of the minor parties, probably the Libertarian or American Independent, who of course has no chance of winning election. Therefore, in contrast to whichever of the major party hopefuls ends up as California's governor, the candidate who ends up getting my vote at least will do no harm to anyone or to the body politic.
