Thoughts on Our Gun Free Military Occasioned by the Fort Hood Massacre

Our military bases are like the Virginia Tech campus -- gun free zones.

The bases are made so by officers concerned that their path to future promotions may be jeopardized if they are criticized for any accident(s) that might be attributed to allowing those who pursue what used to be a profession of arms to actually be armed.

I recall a time that all officers -- noncoms as well as commissioned -- carried arms at all times. Now we have a typical military commander in Alaska prohibiting those under him from carrying arms even off duty and notwithstanding that they have state permits to carry concealed weapons.

These careerist commanders who are afraid of guns have lots of blood on their hands and much for which to account . . . although in our politically correct world they are unlikely to ever be called to account.
