Deep in a Ditch and Still Digging

California is, without question, a state in decline. It is in deep trouble, mired in a ditch that it has dug for itself. Its political leadership pays lip service to attempts to avoid a catastrophic collapse and even makes a few easy and pain free reforming gestures. But they so far are intent on digging the ditch even deeper, continuing business as usual, as is set forth in this analytical essay.
