After the Republicons get committed to running against the hapless current occupant of the White House in 2012, they then might find themselves unprepared to face, and actually facing another Demorat candidate for the presidency.
Shocking though it may be, Obama may not be his party's candidate for the presidency next year.
It is possible that he might pull out either on his own or as a result of being pressured into doing to by the cretins who currently pass as the Demorats' elder statesmen.
The two arguments against this are (i) Obama's colossal ambition and ego, and (ii) the absence of a credible alternate candidate.
However, the Chosen One's ambition and ego might be overridden by poll numbers sinking to a sufficiently abysmal level to presage certain defeat . . . a defeat so humiliating bad as to drag the party down to a low enough level to destroy it as a viable political force for years to come.
As for there being no alternate candidate in sight, think either Hillary (if the Demoquacks have the stomach for the possibility of another Clinton administration) or someone who can be manufactured, put forward, and puffed and propped up to limit the extent of the party's losses.
Were the Republicons not the stupid party it would have people already thinking about and preparing for this possibility as remote as it may seem today.
