More Equal Than Others

The latest government slight of hand to distract gullible suckers has been its service of an investigative subpoena on Goldman Sachs.

This is just a charade to divert attention from the sad fact that equal justice under law no longer exists in our legal system. In fact, as is pointed out in one of yesterday's posts, the rule of law has become a thing of America's past under the country's current administration. Consider the following:

*  The significant number of prominent tax cheats who not only have gone unpunished but also have been named to, and continue to hold high governmental offices, proving the truth of the statement of Leona Helmsley, who was dubbed the "Queen of Mean," that

Only the little people pay taxes.

*  Continuing seizures and shut downs of small and community banks even though they are no more shaky than the nation's giant ones that have been propped up with taxpayer funds from the public treasury. This phenomena increases the market share of, and concentrates economic power in the large institutions that caused the nation's economic meltdown but, as handmaidens of our public officials, continue to be rewarded for their malfeasance.

*  Not a single financial bigwig has been called to account for the financial chicaneries that brought down the nation's economy. These crony capitalist oligarchs not only have gone unscathed but they have been richly rewarded by either being allowed to retire with lavish payouts or retained in, or even promoted to powerful and richly compensated executive positions.

The rule of law has been transformed, It now means:

Too Big to Fail = Too Big to Jail
