About Those Employment Numbers

Obama's labor secretary objects that skepticism about the rosy jobless statistics that her department issued this morning is "insulting" and the nation's characteristically uncurious and unskeptical lamestream journalice are touting the Obama-benefiting numbers.

The fact is that the reported numbers defy logic and have to be bogus.  Anyone who delves into them will quickly discern that they are internally inconsistent.

The report may be the result of  either (i) ineptitude within the Department of Labor, or (ii) a shoddy and inept October surprise effort to distract from the President's having been trounced in his debate with his Republicon election opponent or simply to enhance his reelection chances.

Anyone who objects that the government would not engage in deliberate dishonesty would do well to (i) read the report linked in the immediately preceding post about how the administration is openly urging employers to violate existing law, and then (ii) think about whether active scofflaws would shrink from merely manipulating a few numbers.

Deliberate lying has been a standard operating procedure in and by our government in recent decades.  Remember Nixon proclaiming "I am not a crook" or the reported attack on one of our navy's ship in the Gulf of Tonkin that was used to justify sucking us further into the Vietnam War?  And what about the recent efforts by the current administration to attribute the terrorist attack on our embassy and the murder of our ambassador in Libya to spontaneous Muslim outrage over an obscure video lampooning Mohammed?
