Restoring Respectability to Racism

One of the few noteworthy achievements of the current occupant of the oval office is that he and his supporters have revived racism and restored it to respectability.

They have done this by attributing any and all opposition to Mr. Obama, his political positions, and his policies to racism.

As a senior citizen who has actively promoted racial equality and justice since long before doing so became risk free and popular. and racism became taboo,  I  recognize and lament that charges of racism have become the modus operandi of political opportunists and race hustlers. The charges have come to be leveled commonly, more often than not without justification, at -- and as a knee jerk reaction to -- anyone and everyone criticizing the Obama administration irrespective of the good faith of the critic(s) or the bona fides of their criticism(s).

This, as in the fable of the boy who always cried wolf, has cheapened the charge and increasingly detracted from its effectiveness. Principled political opponents of the administration and conservatives in general at whom racism charges have been directed willy nilly have ceased to care and, consequently,  more and more people once again have become increasingly tolerant of genuine racism.

So much for our first post racial president.
